EA Classic Safari attracts 60 drivers

The annual East African Classic Safari Rally has attracted 60 classic cars from 18 countries and will be held from November 19-27 covering Kenya and Tanzania.
The competition cars are expected to cross Tanzania on November 22nd through Namanga/Tarakea border posts and the event in Tanzania will run for four to five days covering Arusha, Manyara, Kilimanjaro and Simanjiro Regions.
Cars will depart using the Holili border on  November 26 to Taita Hills althea way to Mombasa for finishing at White Sand Hotel the following day. The event was skipped last year.
The event has been useful in boosting tourism revenue as hotels in northern Tanzania stand to benefit. Leading hotels in those regions where cars will pass have been booked at least for two nights each.
Standing to benefit from this rally are Mount Meru, Kibo Palace, Tulip and Lake Manyara’s Serena, Nsya Lodge and others.
Tanzania leading classic drivers who are lined up in this event include veteran Jayant Shah driving Porsche 911 and Karim Wissanji driving Ford Escort Mk1. Some of the world leading drivers; Ian Duncan 2013 winner with Amaar Slatch, Alistair Cavenagh, Jonathan Savage, Quentin Savage, Joachim Roman to mention a few are also  taking part.
Automobile Association of Tanzania’s president Nizar Jivani is in advance congratulating all the participants – crews and spectators and welcoming them to Tanzania to promote sports and tourism. He   also thanks tourism and sports ministries, Customs, Immigration, Police, National Sports Council, Regional Authorities for the cooperation and easy facilitation provided since 2013.
The event director for 2015 is Ashok Bhalla assisted by AAT and Arusha-based AAT affiliated club chairman, Viren Shah.
The route shows that on the first day which is November 22 cars will arrive at Oldonyo Sambu/Longido and finish Mto wa Mbu (Manyara) overnight stop from Mombasa Kenya.
The  rally contingent would rest and service vehicles ahead of third day’s flagging off from Nsya Lodge at Mto wa Mbu to Makuyuni, Jeshini, Nanja, Monduli and last competitive stage for the day in Longido and proceed overnight to Arusha.
On the fourth day drivers will head to Oldonyo Sambu, Longido, Monduli and Panone overnight to Arusha again. 
The fifth and final day in Tanzania will be November 26 when cars will be flagged off and depart from Arusha   and head towards TPC in Moshi to start a their last day around Msitu wa Tembo, Nyumba ya Mungu Reservoir, Mwanga, Same and the North Pare Mountains after which they will proceed to the Holili Border to cross in Kenya and drive to Taita Hill for overnight stay.
A total of 250 vehicles comprising international press, officials, service crews,    over 500 spectators will cross into Tanzania during the rally spell days.
